About the festival

What kind of event is this?

This is a workshop festival where you learn handstand from instructors of various genres while staying at a Zen dojo in Kyoto for 4 days and 3 nights.

We will also have game and show time besides workshop.

What is handstand?

It is to stand upside down. In addition to the hands, you can stand on various other body parts, such as the shoulders and head.

I'm totally new to handstand. Can I participate?

Beginners are welcome! We have classes for beginners, so feel free to join us.

If you would like to practice in advance, check out the workshops that each teachers offers periodically in the run-up to the festival.

Are there any eligibility requirements?

There are no qualifications for participation. Anyone from elementary school age and up may participate. Children up to elementary school age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Junior high school students and older may participate on their own, but only those who can take care of themselves will be allowed to do so.

Minors must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian when purchasing tickets/participating in the event.

(*Please note that those related to antisocial forces are not allowed to attend.)

Is there parking lot?

No parking is available. Please use public transportation.

Can I leave my luggage and valuables with you during the festival?

We will not take care of participants' luggage or valuables. You are responsible for managing your own belongings.

Do you verify my identity upon entry?

You will be required to present identification documents. No one other than the person who purchased the ticket will be allowed to attend the event.

I am a minor. Can I participate by myself?

High school students and older may participate by themselves. Junior high school students and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Minors must obtain the consent of their parents or guardians to participate.

Can I take photos or videos and post them on SNS or blogs?

You can take photos and short videos, and post them on the internet. Please mention about Hallucigenia Handstand festival. However, it's prohibited to record the entire workshop and to post its contents on the Internet.

What should I bring?

Please bring the following.

・Identification documents (driver's license, social security card, passport, student ID, etc.)

・Health Insurance card

・The necessaties of daily life. (No amenities are provided by the facility.)

 e.g., clothes, bath towels, toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, regular medication, etc.

・Hand tool (for headstand)

Can I take a break from the workshop / separate during the festival?

You are not required to attend all workshops, so you can take time off if needed. We'd like you to attend the general meetings as much as possible.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Pets are not allowed.

Can I sell my products at the festival?

If you wish to sell goods, please contact us using the inquiry form. Sales and commercial activities without prior application are strictly prohibited.

I'm not Japanese. Can I participate? Are interpreters available?

Participants from other countries are also welcome! Please note that although we have several interpreters, they will not be able to attend to all of your needs.

About the tickets

How do I pay for my ticket?

Please pay for tickets by bank account transfer.

International money transfers or Wise is also available for foreign residents.

I purchased a ticket but can no longer go. Can I cancel or change my ticket?

No cancellations will be accepted after payment of the ticket price. Please check your schedule, contents and important notes carefully before purchasing tickets.

I cannot attend for the full 4 days, is it possible to attend for shorter periods?

Early-bird tickets are only available for all four days, but short tickets will be available after August only if there are still space left.

Prices are still being adjusted, but please be patient as we update the information.

My payment was late and the order has been canceled, what should I do?

If payment is not confirmed after the payment deadline, your application will be cancelled.

Please note that we reserve the right to refuse subsequent ticket sales to those who cancel with late payment.

Can I resell or give someone the tickets?

Any change, resale, or transfer of tickets is strictly prohibited.

I will be accompanied by a parent or guardian, do they need a ticket as well?

Tickets for parents/guardians are also required. Please purchase tickets for the number of people entering.

Do I need a ticket even if I am an attendant or caregiver for a disabled person?

Tickets are also required for accompanying or assisting persons for disabled people. Please purchase tickets for the number of people entering the venue.

Please note that staff members are not available to fully assist you.

About the stay

What are the rooms for my stay like?

Rooms are on tatami mats and you will be sharing with other participants. Bedding(Futon) and linens will be provided.

What kind of meals will be served?

The meals will be simple vegetarian meals. If you feel still hungry, feel free to buy or eat additional meals at supermarkets or restaurants. However, if you do not eat the meals provided, the fee will remain the same and no refunds will be given.s

Can I take a bath?

You can take a bath in the shared large bathroom. Please consult with us if you have a circumstance that does not allow you to use the public baths.

Can use laundry machine?

Please do your laundry at a nearby laundromat, as there are no washing machines available. If you need help using the laundromat, please ask our staff.

Can I stay in a private room with my family, lover or friends, do you have one?

There are about 10 private rooms available. If you would like to reserve one, please let us know at the reception desk on the day of your arrival. First-come-first-served basis. (Additional charge of ¥7,000 per person for entire stay)

Can I participate without lodging or meals?

It is possible to participate without lodging or meals, but the price of the participation fee will remain the same.

Where is the closest train station?

The nearest station is Ōbaku Station. It is a 5-minute walk from there.

Can I go in and out of the venue during the festival?

You are free to exit an enter the venue as you please during the festival. Please inform the staff if you will be staying overnight in other place.

Is there a supermarket or convenience store near the venue?

Convenience store, supermarket, 100 yen store, etc. are within walking distance.
